1991 valuation

The date every English council tax band is set from — 1 April 1991. Never updated since.

Every home in England is banded as if it were being valued on 1 April 1991. This applies even to homes built in 2025 — the VOA works out what the property would have been worth in 1991 and assigns a band on that basis. Wales was revalued in 2003 but England's valuations are 34 years old and were done in bulk with limited inspections, which is why so many bands are wrong.
